Your body can’t repair muscles and tissues as well without enough protein. Protein also helps regulate hormones, build cells and helps infants in the womb to grow properly, among many other benefits. Your body uses this as well as fats and carbs for energy to get through the day. Vitamins and minerals are also vital, as your body can’t properly make these on its own. You must get those nutrients through your food or you will develop chronic conditions, injuries and health problems from vitamin and mineral deficiencies.


That fatigue you feel each day? It can be linked to not getting enough nutrition. Nutritional deficiencies also lead to:

  • Constipation or diarrhea

Want to lose a bit of weight here and there, but you don’t really have the time to do a weight-loss program? Simply evaluate your daily habits and then start to adjust them. Here are some tips for easier weight loss you can start doing now:

  • Sleep more. When you don’t sleep enough, your body can’t repair itself at night. Metabolism drops, which can slow down weight loss.
  • Drink water. Your body is made of water and you need to have plenty of it each day for weight loss and proper functioning. Aim for half your body weight in ounces each day.
  • Cut out sugar. Or at least reduce the sugar you eat. The body needs very few sugars to run properly, and those sugars should be natural. Added sugars lead directly to weight gain, nutrient deficiencies and a hoard of health problems. Too much can even lead to issues such as diabetes and other chronic conditions. Remember that starches (carbohydrates) are sugars too when you check food labels.
  • Eat your food slower. This can help you to know when you are adequately full instead of overeating and feeling sick afterwards.
  • Exercise! If you truly want weight loss, you have to target both your diet and your exercise. Your weight loss will be minimal without expending energy through exercise. The American Heart Association recommends getting at least 150 minutes of exercise each week (30 minutes a day for 5 days) as a baseline.
  • Lift weights. If you already exercise, consider adding a weight routine to your workout. This can tone, strengthen and slim your body in a fairly short amount of time. Always work with a professional and/or learn proper technique before exercising with weights.
